Clary's - Springfield Fine Dining
In 1989, two brothers, Tom and James Clary had a dream to open their own restaurant in their hometown of Springfield, Missouri. The brothers had long worked in food service and felt that they could bring a type of dining to Springfield that had previously been unknown. After securing a location on the Southeast side of town, they opened Clary's American Grill on February 3rd, 1989. The rest is Springfield restaurant history. Although Tom stayed with the company only 5 years (he now does restaurant consulting in St. Louis) his input and attention to detail in the dining room allowed James to pursue his passion for cooking.
James continued to operate Clary's and opened a second restaurant, The Gallery Bistro, in 1997. James sold the original restaurant on East Sunshine in August 2006 after 17 years of successful operation. The new owners did not do as well and closed after 10 months in business. Seeing an opportunity, James re-opened Clary's in August of 2007 in a beautiful new setting on Battlefield Road.
James says, "Clary's has always been about tradition. For almost 18 years Clary's has been at the top of the heap of fine dining restaurants in Springfield and now with our new location, I can safely say we are there again. I don't have any interest in being "cutting edge", even though I love new food, and new ideas and do incorporate them into my cooking. My interest is for providing my guests with the absolute best possible dining experience. Yes, the food has to be spectacular, but so does the service, and the setting. The wine has to be the right temperature, the drinks prepared properly, etiquette followed, portions have to be such that people have to feel that the value is there, fish has to be fresh, produce and meats have to be bought locally, etc. etc. My business is not just about great food. It is about attention to detail. Clary's is simply put, a restaurant for those accustomed to special attention".

Big Green Egg Cooking Class at Outdoor Home
Every 3rd Thursday of each month, James Clary will be teaching a cooking class. On August 21, the menu will include Chinese favorites: Potstickers, Hot Sour Soup, Peking Duck with Mandarin Pancakes, Stir Fried Rice, Stir Fried Spicy Shrimp and Noodles, Sweet and Sour Chicken and Fortune Cookies.
